Pakleni islands are located in region of Central Dalmatia, south-west of island Hvar, few hundreds of meters south of town Hvar. Pakleni islands and island Hvar are divided by Hvar Canal.
Because of the currents and wind, and because a lot of cliffs and rocks, sailing can be hard between islands.
Pakleni islands are consisted of islands and cliffs: Vodnjak Veli, Vodnjak Mali, Travna, Parzanj, Borovac, St. Klement, Skojic, Karbun, Lengva, Baba, Dobri Otok (Good Island), Stambedar, Plocice, Gojca, Borovac, Planikovac, Marinkovac, Jerolim, Galisnik, Pokonji Dol, Vlaka.
Largest island is St. Klement. It has three settlements: Vlaka, Palmizana and Momica polje. There are no permanent inhabitants in those settlements.
In a bay Palmizana is ACI Marina with 160 boat berths, water and electricity connection, restaurants and stores.
Pakleni islands are made of limestone.
Pakleni islands are mostly covered with Mediterranean maquis. There is also Aleppo pine woods. Other vegetation is consisted of rosemary, fennel, oregano, thyme, basil...

Island Jerolim is famous naturist destination. It has restaurant and showers. It is connected with town Hvar with boat line.

Pakleni islands were named after „paklina“ – type of pine resin which was used in shipbuilding.
On island St. Klement are remains which testify that island was graveyard.
In 2nd century BC Romans were in a battle against Illyrians who used ports on Pakleni islands.
In bay Palmizana were found remains of Antique ship from Roman times which was transfering ceramic dishes.
Protected objects on Pakleni islands are Church of St. Klement from 16th century in settlement Vlaka on island St. Klement, lighthouse Pokonji Dol and battery Galisnik which were built by Austrians in 1836.
