Bacvice is residential neighborhood in Croatian town Split, in region of Central Dalmatia. Area of Bacvice has around 3347 inhabitants and it is located almost in the center of town Split and Diocletian's palace.

Beach Bacvice is famous playground for game picigin. Each year here is kept World picigin championship. Picigin is played in shallow sea with a small ball. Picigin is founded in Split and it is one of the most known Split's characteristics and protected as immaterial cultural heritage of Croatia. It has been played since World War I.
Bacvice beach has spotlights for night playing and traditional, picigin is played on first day of New Year.
Picigin is played with a ball which is tossed between 5 players who play with their palms and try not to drop the ball into the sea. Ball for picigin is made of tennis ball. Fabric on tennis ball is cut and inside is abraded. Ball for picigin is called „balun“.
Beach Bacvice is also used as town's spa. Many people come here with health problems and injuries of spine, hips, legs.
Beach Bacvice is ideal for many sports activities: board sailing, „glavomet“, „nogbi“, jumping from cliffs...
„Glavomet“ is a game played by 5 people who add a ball to teammates by head.
„Nogbi“ is a game played with lighter ball similar to football. It is played in shallow waters of beach Bacvice.

Name Bacvice was created during the Venetian rule in Dalmatia. Croatian „bacvice“ means small barrels.
Bacvice was a name for peninsula between today's port and beach Bacvice. Bay was called Spalacuni.
Family Katalinic had built two buildings and summer house. After that peninsula is called Katalinica brig.
Before 19th century bay Bacvice was untouched natural beach with vineyards and small paths. In the end of 19th century families Bui and Paparelo-Rizmondo built houses in the bay.
In 1891. Ivan Koscina built first public beach in the bay. It was constructed of long wooden pier with wooden poles driven into the sand. On first half were cabins.
In 1901. politicians, by means of bishop, decided to limit bathing hours. Women would use the beach until 11 am and men after 11 am.
In 1905. Ivan Koscina reconstructed beach. At the end of wooden pier he built barrack with outdoor loggia with three openings in the floor. On each side of pier were cabins, for men and women. In front of the barrack was 3 m high fence dividing beach for men on west side and beach for women and children on east side.
In 1915. waves knocked down old beach.
