Knin carries a nickname “Royal city” and is situated in Sibenik-Knin county. In near vicinity of Knin you can find spring of river Krka (beneath waterfall “Krcic”), river runs through city. Also the biggest mountain in Croatia called “Dinara” is only 15 km from Knin. Population in Knin is 77% Croatians and 23% Serbians. In ex SFR Yugoslavia, Knin had population around 44.000 inhabitants and now there is only 16.000 people living in this city. If you look at the statistics of age structure, Knin is the youngest city in whole Croatia because very big part of its population consists of young people, kids and young married couples. Knin is situated on important traffic junction regarding rails and road routes. Important roadway that passes through Knin is Croatian state rout D1. Knin lies on the 220m height above sea level. It is located in the northern region of Dalmatia. Regarding its climate, there is bit modified influence of Mediterranean climate. Even if Knin is relatively near to the sea (only 50km) but since it’s also close to the mountain Dinara, it has cold winters. Summers are quite worm and hot, temperatures even rise above 40 degrees Celsius. It is one of the warmest cities in Croatia.

Knin - History
Nearby of this city you can find place once called “Burnum”, it was an Illyrian and Roman military camp in first century BC. The city of Knin was first created as a fortress on top of the hill Spas. That hill is surrounded by Knin valley. During historical times it had major strategic importance regarding transport routes. Because of that in past it was the seat of the mayor, kings, governors and Croatian dukes. First mentions of name Knin was found in documents of King Kresimir. After the last independent Croatian king (King Peter) died , city was governed by different kingdoms like Hungarian, Turks, Venetians, the administration of Austria and even Napoleon.
